Back to School

It’s time to shake the sand out of your ears and prepare yourself for going back to school[1]. So here are a few things to keep in mind[2]. First of all, college[3] is for university students.

You’ll have to get lots of books! For example, you might want a historical[4] book that talks about a certain period in the past, or you might be interested in a historic[5] book, a landmark[6] of literature, which made a big impression on everybody. Or perhaps you’d prefer a fantasy[7] book because the real world depresses you. Sometimes, those books can be horrible or they can be fantastic[8]. Unfortunately, you’re required to get a book on economics[9]. When you turn the books over and see the price, you realize[10] that they are really not economical[11] at all. So you decide not to buy them at the bookstore[12] and you see if you can borrow[13] them from a library[14] instead. But the library can only lend[15] you the books for a short period of time. You decide to check out[16] the books anyway, and you spend almost as much money photocopying them as the original books cost.

Okay fine, you got the books, but that’s just the beginning. In order to get good marks[17] on your exams, it’s very important to attend[18] all your classes and take notes[19], so you can study what you learned in class later. Don’t get discouraged[20] if you don’t understand something, just ask the teacher or a fellow student to assist[21] you. Obviously, if you hardly work[22], you’ll fail[23] and your parents won’t approve[24] at all. On the other hand, if you work hard[25], you’ll pass[26] all your classes and get a degree[27] in the subject you studied, and you’ll be able to start a promising career[28] in an interesting job!
