Please, make yourself at home. Get comfortable, and act as if you were in your own home. Who knows when I’ll see you again. It probably won’t be for a very long time, or until the cows come home. That’s a shame![1] Because, we became very good friends very quickly. You could say we got on a like a house on fire.
You say you don’t have any exciting news, nothing to write home about. I remember the last time I saw you, we went to a pub. You told us a story that captivated[2] everybody. It was very close to home; it was very similar to a personal experience I had. It was very moving[3]; everyone was move to tears. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. At least afterwards, you lightened the atmosphere, by telling a funny anecdote. You managed to bring the house down; everybody there was laughing and clapping very loudly. It was such a rousing performance[4] that the pub owner actually gave everybody a round[5] on the house; no one had to pay for their drinks.
Life is like a house of cards. It is very fragile and can easily fall down[6]. Nobody can criticize you for all you’ve been through. People shouldn’t pass judgment on others[7] for the same flaws[8] they have. In other words, people who live in glass houses, shouldn’t throw stones. So ignore them. After all, they should put their own house in order first. They should take care of their own problems, and mind their own business[9]. These people can be really ignorant. I often wonder if they pay any attention to what’s really going on. It’s as if the lights are on but nobody’s home!
