Read or Read

There are two ways of pronouncing the verb read. Depending on how you pronounce the vowels, read can be one tense or another.

When pronounced like reed, it is the...
infinitive form: I read three books a month.
or present simple: I would like to read her next book.
The sound doesn't change when adding -ing in the gerund form:
I like reading the newspaper.

When pronounced like the color red, it is the...
past simple: I read that book last month.
or past participle: I have read that book before.
