Actually versus Currently

Currently, there are many students who actually confuse actually and currently. They often say actually when they want to say currently. You see currently means at present, while actually, which  means in fact, is used to introduce contrary information. Look at the difference below.

- What are you working on now?
- I'm currently working on an advertising campaign.
- Currently, I'm working on an advertising campaign.
  It's quite challenging.

- How's the advertising campaign going?
- We actually finished that campaign a few days ago.
- Actually, we finished that campaign a few days ago.
  It was a success!

Notice that we can use these adverbs before the main verb (or after the auxiliary verb or verb be), or at the beginning of the sentence, separated by a comma. At the beginning of the sentence, these adverbs have more emphasis.

Now, you should actually know how to use these adverbs!
