How often do you do homework? Really! How often do you do housework? I didn’t ask you that already! Don’t confuse homework and housework. Although you don’t like doing either one, they’re not the same thing! You see homework is work from school that you have to do at home. And housework is the work you have to do to keep your house clean and tidy.
The teacher gave us a lot of homework!
My parents give me housework on the weekend!
The homework / housework never ends!
Like all work, both homework and housework are uncountable nouns, so you need to use third-person-singular verbs with them. If you want to count them, you can use other related words. When talking about homework, you can talk about the assignments, exercises, projects or reports you have to do. Likewise, when talking about housework, you can talk about all the chores, jobs or tasks you have to do.
I have a difficult assignment due next week.
I can’t stand writing reports.
I only have three more exercises.
My chores include setting and clearing the table and doing the dishes.
I do a different task every day.
My dad gives me little jobs to earn my allowance [1].
Ironically, the subjects of the homework assignments are uncountable: biology, chemistry, English, math, physics, science, social studies, etc The types of chores or activities are uncountable too: cooking, doing the laundry, dusting, ironing, sweeping, vacuuming, etc.
It’s better to keep yourself busy, after all, as the saying goes:
The devil finds work for idle hands [2]. Or you’ll get yourself into trouble trying to get rid of your boredom [3]! I have the feeling you'd rather be bored!
[1] mensualidad, [2] manos holgazanas, [3] meterte en lios intendando de deshacerse dl aburrimiento
