The Academy Awards, more widely-known as the Oscars, are probably the most glamorous, most watched awards ceremony, for film or otherwise, in the whole world. The Oscars are held every year in Los Angeles, the Mecca of show business[1], at the end of February-beginning of March. This Sunday will be the 82nd edition. The first Oscars were handed out by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1928. There are many myths about the origins of the name Oscar. The most accepted theory claims that Academy’s Executive Secretary thought it resembled her uncle, whose name was Oscar. A nearby reporter overheard this remark and popularized it in his column. Now, both names, Oscar and Academy Award, are registered trademarks.
