On June 12, 1898, the Phillipines declared its independence Spain, but soon lost itin the Treaty of Paris on December 10 after the end of the Spanish-American War. in 1935, it was granted commonwealth status which ended with the Japanes invasion in 1942 during the Second World War. After the Japanes were defeated in 1945, the United States granted the Phillipines independence on July 4th.
